A DIY baking experience for EPCALM patients, volunteers

EPCALM patients, their family members, volunteers, and some Social Workers and office staff were treated to a unique do-it-yourself (DIY) baking experience when EPCALM was invited to the soft launch of IDIM (I Did It Myself) DIY Bakery’s newest branch at the Annex Building of SM City North EDSA in Quezon City recently.

The baking experience was prompted by an invitation from Robert Manzano, Marketing Associate of Sucree Coco and Love Inc., the company that acquired a franchise deal in 2019 with IDIM DIY Bakery, the top DIY Bakery in Taiwan, which later brought this baking concept to the Philippines.

As the afternoon unfolded, the event host turned out to be no stranger to EPCALM – Christian B. Alebin, Marketing Head of IDIM DIY Bakery, is the brother of Anna Cassandra B. Alebin, who was a former EPCALM-serviced patient. Sadly though, Anna succumbed to acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on 2 April 2022. In welcoming the EPCALM Family to the bakery, Christian recounted the challenges faced by his sister. He also thanked the Foundation for its significant role during Anna’s leukemia journey.

The baking activity is aligned with EPCALM’s mission to provide holistic support for leukemia patients and their families. Crafting sessions are scheduled every other month – affording them a venue to dabble in arts and crafts as a form of psycho-social therapy.

Joining the EPCALM patients, volunteers and staff were Dr. Erlyn Demerre, EPCALM Founder and Board Chair; Mitch Duran, Executive Director; and Crisan Cruz, Co-Director of the Advocacy and Public Awareness Program. Everyone went home with their baking creations, proving the saying that “Anyone can bake.” Interested to try IDIM DIY Bakery?
