Patient Stories Series
(No. 6)
Throughout her life journey, she has weathered storms and hurdled many challenges, including health issues, with a torch raised high to brighten the path before her. She has comorbidities, before being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in 2021.
Since the passing of her husband in 2015, Delia A. Quiroz, now at 67, had to raise their three sons on her own, especially the second child who has special needs. The youngest son, who works in a commercial bank, is the sole breadwinner of the family now. For Delia, she notes that life is a bit hard, especially with family members facing their own problems.
Personal struggles notwithstanding, Delia remains unfazed. Despite the circumstances their family is facing, she remains steadfast and determined. These problems seem to fuel her drive to move forward, her family’s welfare her top priority rather than her own. Her children, whom she considers as her most precious blessings, serve as her motivation to go on with what life has to offer
She faces her battles a day at a time, and longs for a brighter future for her sons. Her constant hope and prayer is good health for every member of her family. She thanks the Lord for continuous blessings, and acknowledges the programs and services, which EPCALM provides. All these, she says, she is grateful for, as they bolster her courage to face yet another day – with a “torch of hope” to light up the path to wherever life may lead her. (By Charlene Alexia N. Cumal, Joaquim Carlos T. Salinas, and Jenella Roshey D. Sunga)
