Blood cancer groups in PH form Alliance to work for better health care for patients

The Blood Cancer Alliance of the Philippines (BCAP) was officially launched on 1 March 2024 with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) during the Philippine National Cancer Summit in Quezon City. The collaborative partnership will work toward improving the welfare of blood cancer patients in the country, among other priorities.

EPCALM Foundation, a founding BCAP member, together with other Alliance members, signed the MOA after the session on “Blood Cancers in Focus: Amplifying Patient Voices, Driving Collaborative Innovation” during the Cancer Summit, with Jheric Delos Angeles, BCAP Convenor  and Lymphoma Philippines Co-Founder, presenting the “Role of Patient Advocacy in Driving Innovation and Improving Access.” Representing EPCALM was Executive Director Mitch Duran.

Under the MOA, Alliance members will implement programs and services to close the gap by delivering specific strategies, including raising public awareness, diagnosis, treatment, and overall care for blood cancer, as part of the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA).

Specifically, the Alliance seeks to incentivize a focus on blood cancer outcomes by ensuring each health administration in the Philippines measures and reports blood cancer data; and provide future provision for emotional, mental health, and psychological support for people diagnosed with blood cancer.
