‘Blood heroes’ give all-out support to EPCALM Blood Drive

In a massive show of public support, “blood heroes” trooped to the St. Luke’s Medical Center- Global City (SLMC-GC) in Taguig City on 29 June 2024 for the EPCALM Blood Drive, a continuing voluntary blood donation program to address the increasing demand for life-saving blood products for its serviced adult leukemia patients.

The Blood Drive was conducted in partnership with the SLMC-GC Blood Bank and Transfusion Services, and the SLMC-GC Department of Medicine. Uniformed men and women from all the major services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) joined private individuals who were medically screened for the bloodletting activity conducted at the SLMC-GC Piano Lounge.

Volunteer Hematology Fellows also conducted a mini-lecture on the benefits of blood donation, and the critical role it plays in saving lives. During a short program while the activity was ongoing, EPCALM Founder and Board Chair, Dr. Erlyn Cabanag Demerre, and President/ CEO Justice Demerre took turns to deliver messages of hope, encouragement and gratitude. Other EPCALM officers present were Spiritual Care Director, Benito Lagos; Program Directors, Emma Magsino and Josephine Del Mundo (Outreach); Crisan Cruz (Advocacy and Public Awareness); Executive Director, Mitch Duran; as well as social workers and administrative staff.

EPCALM extends its sincere appreciation to the following, for their noble act of donating blood – the AFP, especially from the AFP Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (NCR); Philippine Air Force; Philippine Army, through the Civil-Military Operations Regiment; Philippine Marine Corps; and Philippine Navy, through the Naval Sea Systems Command in Cavite City.

At the same time, the Foundation thanks the PNP, particularly the Police Community Affairs and Development Group, and the Southern Police District; and the BFP – National Headquarters and NCR.

EPCALM also acknowledges the private individuals who donated blood and volunteered their time – residents from Barangay PEMBO, Taguig City; Behavioral Science students of UP Manila; doctors from the SLMC-GC; union officers and employees’ association members from both the SLMC-GC and Quezon City; as well as EPCALM Officers and Staff.

Through a joint partnership agreement, EPCALM and the SLMC-GC Blood Bank, under  a Voluntary Blood Donation Program, have been regularly conducting recruitment of blood donors to promote voluntary blood donation,  and to make blood readily available for patients in need of transfusion.  (With Ralph Vale Joshua I.
