BTS—APO Sings for HOPE: A Night of Celebration and Nostalgia

Behind the Scenes (BTS):  It was a night like no other, as EPCALM Friends, Patrons, Donors and others trooped to the Samsung Hall of AURA in BGC, Taguig to show their support to EPCALM’s 19th anniversary fundraiser, “APO Sings For HOPE” on 24 September 2024. The concert was topbilled by the Apo Hiking Society’s Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo, with Leah Navarro as Guest Performer.

A festive mood pervaded throughout the concert venue, which was also in celebration of World Leukemia Awareness Month.  At the Lobby, Guests were greeted by a Photo Gallery, exclusively shot by ace photographer, Mark Nicdao – featuring the Foundation’s Goodwill Ambassadors, Boy Abunda and Martin Nievera, and some of its celebrity Advocates, such as Pops Fernandez, Anne Curtis, and Heart Evangelista, among others.

Guests were also treated to photo sessions at the specially crafted EPCALM Photo Box, while others visited the booths of Corporate Exhibitors like Tough Mama, Iris Healthcare, and Corbridge Group Philippines. EPCALM also had its own booths, showcasing its advocacy merchandise items, such as tee-shirts designed by Gabbie Demerre, limited edition mugs, and tote bags.

As the guests entered the concert hall, they were pinned orange ribbons by the Ushers from the University of the Philippines-Manila and other youth Volunteers, to show their solidarity with EPCALM-serviced patients and their families. Orange is the advocacy color assigned to leukemia and other forms of blood cancer.

Indeed, it was a night filled with nostalgic performances, which featured the APO Hiking Society’s timeless hits that have captivated audiences for five decades. Their fresh takes on classic Filipino folk songs, combined with OPM hits were also a testament to their musical brilliance and artistry.

Leah Navarro, known for her powerful voice and ethereal performances, joined the APO, adding her charming touch to the evening. The audience did not just listen — they sang along, creating a vibrant chorus that echoed throughout the concert hall. This was a testament to the uniting power of music, which transcends all ages, proving that together, we can create waves of change—one song, one heart, and one hope at a time. (With UP-Manila Interns: Lei Castor, Chelcey De Jesus, Alyanna Deocampo, Verma Pangilinan, and Santi Vista).
