EPCALM Foundation was recently presented the “Kabalikat Award” by the St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City (SLMC-GC) for its consistent support as “partner/ ally” to the hospital’s Voluntary Blood Donation Program. The awarding ceremony was conducted during the Blood Donors’ Recognition Day held on 2 August 2024 at the Henry Sy Sr. Auditorium of SLMC-GC in Taguig City.
At the awarding rites, Dr. Rodelio Lim, Head of the SLMC-GC Blood Bank and Institute of Pathology, lauded the “noble and selfless act” of blood donors, which has helped save the lives of many patients in need of blood transfusion.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of blood donor recipients and beneficiaries, Lenie Rose Veronilla, essayed her personal journey as a former non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma patient, and acknowledged the significant role of blood donors in her road to recovery. Veronilla is the Co-Founder of KAYA Community (Kanser sa Adolescents and Young Adults).
EPCALM and the SLMC-GC Blood Bank and Transfusion Services have a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to jointly conduct Voluntary Blood Donation and Recruitment drives, in support of Republic Act No. 7719 (the National Blood Services Act of 1994) toward promoting blood donation, and providing for an adequate supply of safe blood.
To date, three bloodletting activities have been undertaken through the current EPCALM-SLMC-GC MOA, while EPCALM had previously conducted blood drives in partnership with the SLMC-Quezon City and other organizations.
