EPCALM For Rovil – Garage Sale For A Cause

“….One Man’s Junk is another Man’s Treasure….”

This will be the motto for the latest event that EPCALM will be implementing in cooperation with the Villas family, who EPCALM is currently journeying with, due to their daughter, Rovil, who has Leukemia.

There is a sense of urgency in this activity, as Rovil’s doctors are recommending an immediate Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), once she will hopefully go into relapse following a new high-dose chemotherapy session that she is now undergoing.

Rovil needs whatever help that ALL of us can give, especially as she will be undergoing donor matching procedures (Php 60k per donor) in the next few days. Such help could be in the form of your “hidden treasures” that you usually dispose of or throw away during your regular “spring cleaning”* activities. These “junk” items will then be sold by the Villas family on April 13 and 14, 2013 at 3003 Home Sweet Home Street, Carebi Village, Angono, Rizal (See Map Below). All proceeds of the garage sale will go to Rovil’s BMT Fund.

Though this will be a steep climb to reach the Php 4.5MM BMT target, everything starts with the first step. We are then knocking on your generous hearts and the Filipino’s Bayanihan spirit to contribute to this noble cause.

For your donations in kind, please deliver to the following address: 13 Dama De Noche, New Manila, Quezon City (look for Myra or Renan). Acknowledgment receipts will be issued listing the articles to be donated. See map below:

Post-Note: This activity will the first of a series of garage sale activities that EPCALM will be undertaking for the benefit of EPCALM patients.

* From Wikipedia: The origin of spring cleaning can be traced to the ancient Jewish practice of thoroughly cleansing the home in anticipation of the spring-time memorial feast of Passover (Hebrew: פסח pesach‎). In remembrance of the Jews’ hasty flight from Egypt following their captivity there, during the seven-day observance of the Passover memorial or remembrance, There are strict prohibitions against eating or drinking anything which may have been leavened or fermented with yeast (Exodus 12:15, 19). Jews are not only supposed to refrain from leavened foodstuffs (known in Hebrew as חמץ chametz), they are expressly commanded to rid their homes of even small remnants of chametz for the length of the holiday (Exodus 12:15). Therefore, observant Jews conducted a thorough “spring cleaning” of the house, followed by a traditional hunt for chametz crumbs by candlelight (called bedikat chametz [Hebrew: בדיקת חמץ]) on the evening before the holiday begins.
