In a purposive move to be actively involved in collaborative work with other patient organizations in the Philippines, the EPCALM Foundation is now a Member of the Philippine Alliance of Patient Organizations (PAPO), a coalition of patient groups advocating for universal access to health care and allied services in the Philippines.
PAPO seeks to be an active network of patient groups toward empowering patients in the country, and advocating for their rights. It continues to partner with various government agencies, private corporations, and other non-government organizations to build the capacity of patients.
EPCALM recently joined the Forum spearheaded by PAPO, “Universal Health Care and Blood Cancers: A Conversation,” held at the newly-opened Healthway Cancer Care Hospital in Taguig City. The event coincided with the observance of World Cancer Day, and also launched the PAPO-Ateneo School of Management and Public Health – Rosita G. Leung Primary Health Care Hub Conversation Series.
The Forum panelists included: Dr. Manuel Francisco T. Roxas, Medical Director of the Cancer Care Hospital; Dr. Rico Paolo Gomes Tee; Dr. Marilou C. Avancena; Dr. Alberto Teodoro S. Malvar; and PAPO President, Karen Ida A. Villanueva.
