EPCALM Patients Join CAREWELL Wellness Activities

To complement conventional medicine in addressing physical and emotional issues, EPCALM-serviced patients attended some wellness activities offered weekly by our new partner organization, The Cancer Resource and Wellness (CAREWELL) Community.

According to Carewell Executive Director, Oliver Calasanz, these activities are geared toward helping people with cancer become more positive and engaged in their fight for recovery, and enhancing their health and wellness in a holistic manner.

Among the wellness activities scheduled are art sessions, to help lower stress and anxiety levels; retro dance and fitness dance classes, to provide mild exercise with social interaction, increase body coordination, and build endurance; Shen Zhen QiGong, an energy therapy that combines movement, meditation and regulation of breathing, to help reduce chronic pain and relieve anxiety; and yoga sessions, which involve a sequence of postures and breathing activities.

The Mind/Body programs involve relaxation, meditation, and energy therapies, which are designed to help reduce stress, create a feeling of wellbeing, and provide relief from adverse treatment symptoms and side effects.
