For the first time in almost three years, the EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines organized a benefit dinner to raise funds to help adult leukemia patients and their families have a better healing journey tonight, 14 October 2022.
EPCALM Goodwill Ambassador, MARTIN NIEVERA, sang songs of hope for the guests during the intimate fund-raising dinner, "Steak for a Cause" at the El Gaucho Argentinian Steakhouse in BGC, Taguig City.
Through the years, Martin has generously shared his gift of song to spread leukemia awareness, as well as encourage the public to be part of the healing journey of the underprivileged in health and finances.
EPCALM Founder and Board Chair, Dr. Erlyn C. Demerre, welcomed the supporters, cancer advocates, partners and other health champions of the only adult leukemia support organization in the Philippines. She said that it takes a village to journey with people with blood cancer, adding that family support is important in this journey.
During the event, Dr. Mario Panaligan of St. Luke’s Medical Center, narrated his leukemia journey. As a leukemia survivor, he said that this disease should not be regarded as a ‘death sentence’; “there is hope, and I stand before you as a living testament that leukemia is curable.”
Dinner guests wore orange ribbons to promote the campaign to raise awareness on adult leukemia, and to convey not only hope, but also courage and faith, which are potent weapons in the healing journey of patients.
This dinner for a cause is one of the activities planned for EPCALM’s Hope Fund Pledge Campaign. Through the HOPE Fund and pledges/donations from its donors and supporters, EPCALM can provide the much-needed financial aid and resources to patients in their journey toward wholeness, and for them to start rebuilding their lives.
