Good nutrition can have a positive effect on your cancer journey. This was underscored by medical nutrition physicians during a lecture forum on the importance of medical nutrition, “Eat, Pray, Love” organized by Hope Unlimited, the Cancer Patient Support Group of Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), a partner hospital of EPCALM, last 17 February 2023 in San Juan City.
Representing EPCALM during the activity attended by cancer patients, survivors, and advocates was Crisan Dela Cruz, Co-Director of EPCALM’s Advocacy and Public Awareness Program. Good nutrition will be integrated as an advocacy theme in EPCALM’s programs and services, specifically during patient engagements and regular activities with serviced patients and their families.
According to Dr. Vince Leenard Yabut, a medical nutrition physician of the CSMC Cancer Nutrition Clinic, “good nutrition is important before and during (cancer) treatment,” as he added that “everyone’s experience with cancer is unique, and treatments can affect people differently.”
“Focusing on good nutrition and regular physical activity will help you maintain your strength and may help you better tolerate your treatment.” Good nutrition can help a patient’s immune system to functioning well; lower the risk of infections; complete treatments with fewer side effects; and recover after treatment, among other benefits.
