October 10 is World Mental Health Day

Updated: Sep 13, 2023

October 10 is World Mental Health Day. The EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines joins the world in celebrating the life that goes on despite the challenges in life that invariably affect our mental state of being.

EPCALM recognizes the many facets of mental health challenges, especially when trials beset us. Since 2013, EPCALM has brought together experts from the US and the Philippines to help Filipinos understand grief, which is an emotional state that needs to be processed to preserve mental and physical health. Grief is always part of human existence which is magnified in the group of people that EPCALM serves, the sick, the grieving, and the dying.

As a grief resource in the country, EPCALM is a staunch advocate for mental health. It has partnered with many like-minded organizations and recently the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) to create awareness and reduce the stigma attached to Mental health. PCP and EPCALM have made mental health a banner advocacy.

“…For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…”

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Now with the COVID crisis, mental health challenges are on the rise. Even without the Covid pandemic, leukemia patients experience a storm that like Covid is an invisible enemy that brings us to our knees to pray. We affirm our belief that Jesus is the supreme God and has conquered every difficulty or trial be it leukemia or mental health challenges.

EPCALM will once again launch a series of Mental Health Awareness Posters in our EPCALM Facebook and Instagram accounts for the whole month of October. Stay tuned also for EPCALM activities this October 2020 in support of the celebration of Mental Health Awareness.
